The Alcoholics' Guide to Mold Farming
The wife and I take pride in the idea of considering ourselves half-assed wine snobs. That means we have all sorts of fancy (yet cheap) wines, fancy corkscrews, foil cutters and our little wine fridge. I say "half-assed" because if you look carefully you'll see that the wine fridge is hall wine and half hard-liquor. Gotta put it somewhere right?
So here's today's lesson. If you go away for a week in Mexico and want to save electricity and money by turning off everything in the house before you go, don't unplug the wine fridge. Unplugging the wine fridge seems like a harmless act, right? What could go wrong?
Well, it seems that when your wine loses its cool, it becomes the perfect home for mold.
Not long after we arrived home we discovered a thin, sporadic coat of mold throughout the fridge. The bottles that had been opened and recorked were hit the worst.
The bad part was the fact that we had to part with a few bottles. The good part was the really cool pictures I got of the mold. Whoa, when did my camera decide to take such nice pictures??
